About Mrs. Tooker
I have a B.S. in Chemistry with a concentration in education from Nazareth University in Rochester, NY.
I hold a 7-12 chemistry education, as well as a basic catechist religion certificate. I participate in a variety of professional development offereings, including programs offered by the Leonard Gelfand STEM Center at Case Western Reserve University. The programs offered by the Leonard Gelfand STEM center allows me to bring activities to the classroom that allows students to become citizen scientists.
Teaching Philosophy
As an educator, I believe that effective science teaching includes a blend of explicit instruction and hands-on, inquiry based learning. Students engage in experiments, investigations, and problem solving activities that allow them to develop an understanding of scientific concepts and the nature of science. Additionally, I believe it is important for students to connect what they are learning in class to real world issues and experiences so that they can become informed citizens.
Fun Facts/Hobbies
- I enjoy spending time in nature (hiking, canoeing, cross country skiing).
- I like baking, reading, and I have an immense sweet tooth!
- Fun Fact- I love watching the Buffalo Sabres play hockey!
