Teaching Philosophy

As a graduate of St. Ann, Regina, and Regis University I firmly believe in the value of a Catholic education.  Simply put, I believe that kids can do hard things and are more capable of being independent than we generally allow them to be in their daily lives.  I also believe that kids crave structure, routine, and want to do what’s right.  Children are naturally curious and learning should stem from that core concept.

My classroom is governed by principles of Catholicism that I learned as a student at St. Ann: God loves everyone, we are here to do God’s will, there is beauty in all things whether they are mundane or bright, and we are called to spread the Gospel through how we live our lives. From an educational perspective I firmly believe in explicit instruction, that all students can learn in any situation, and that, as an educator, I need to meet students where they are and take them on their own personal learning journey. I believe that boredom is a choice and that students can and should seek out and discover what they can learn in any situation.

I scaffold my instruction for all students and my goal at any point is for students to be independent and take responsibility for their own learning.  There is a lot to learn in 2nd Grade and we work hard! By building individual relationships with students I believe that my classroom is full of love, laughter, learning, and kindness.
